Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure performed to correct excess fat, loose skin, and pregnancy-related stretch marks in the abdominal area. During the operation, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. Stretch marks located below the belly button are completely eliminated, while those above the belly button may be reduced but not entirely removed. After pregnancy or significant weight loss, the abdominal muscles and skin often cannot return to their original firmness.

Abdominoplasty is performed particularly in middle-aged and older individuals who experience this problem and seek a more normal, firm abdominal contour. The procedure tightens loosened abdominal muscles and removes excess skin and fat. Liposuction is commonly combined with abdominoplasty to contour the flanks and improve the overall shape of the waistline.

The surgery typically lasts 2–4 hours, and the hospital stay is about 1–2 days. Most patients can resume limited daily activities one week after surgery. However, activities that require the use of the abdominal muscles—such as heavy lifting and strenuous exercise—must be avoided for 4–6 weeks. Light daily tasks can be performed without restriction.
